Mitchell Altschuler
| | University of IllinoisMitch Altschuler is an intellectual property officer at the University of Illinois. He will work to safeguard the WEST project’s intellectual property. Mitch most recently served as the Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI) IP manager at the University of California, Berkeley, for seven years. This position involved coordinating IP from Berkeley, Illinois and the Lawrence Berkeley Labs. Before working at the EBI, Mitch was an Intellectual Asset Manager and IP manager for Cargill Incorporated and the University of Minnesota. Mitch is also the IP officer for Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency (RIPE) and for two other ARPA-E-funded projects: Plants Engineered to Replace Oil in Sugarcane and Sweet Sorghum (PETROSS) and Transportation Energy Resource from Renewable Agriculture - Mobile Energy-Crop Phenotyping Platform (TERRA-MEPP). He has a master’s degree and doctorate in biology from the University of Albany, and was a tenured faculty member in biology at Northern Illinois University for over 10 years.
