Carl Bernacchi
| | USDA-ARS, University of IllinoisCarl Bernacchi is a USDA Agricultural Research Service scientist with the Global Change and Photosynthesis Research Unit and an assistant professor of crop sciences at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on understanding the impacts of atmospheric and climatic change on crop species. These analyses include global change scenarios as well as natural variations in growth conditions over a wide range of temporal scales. As a member of WEST, he will assist with the phenotyping of canopy temperature and soil water content. In addition WEST, he is a member another ARPA-E-funded project, Transportation Energy Resource from Renewable Agriculture - Mobile Energy-Crop Phenotyping Platform (TERRA-MEPP).
Carl earned his master’s degree from Bradley University and went on to earn his doctorate from Illinois. He has published many peer-reviewed articles, in journals such as Plant Cell & Environment and Annual Review of Plant Biology. He has also received numerous awards, including the Melvin Calvin Award from the International Society of Photosynthesis Researchers.
